Overview

HVAC Install Lead – Commission

Are you an experienced HVAC installer who takes pride in clean work, properly commissioned systems, and jobs done right the first time?

 

Berkeys is looking for an HVAC Install Lead to lead residential replacement projects from equipment removal through startup and final customer walkthrough. You’ll work alongside an Install Helper, take ownership of installation quality, and ensure every system is installed safely, professionally, and according to manufacturer specifications, local codes, TDLR requirements, and Berkeys standards.

 

This is a commission-based opportunity for a skilled installer who works efficiently without sacrificing quality, communicates well with customers, and is ready to help develop the next generation of HVAC talent.

Average Annual Comepnsation on all commission: $90-$125K/year

What We’re Looking For

  • Three or more years of residential HVAC installation experience preferred.
  • Previous experience leading installation projects or directing an Install Helper strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of residential HVAC systems, installation procedures, airflow, refrigerant practices, electrical components, controls, and commissioning.
  • Experience installing split systems, furnaces, heat pumps, air handlers, coils, condensers, thermostats, and related accessories.
  • Proficiency with refrigerant recovery equipment, vacuum pumps, micron gauges, field gauges, electrical meters, brazing equipment, and hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, installation manuals, work orders, and equipment specifications.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve installation-related problems.
  • Strong organization, time-management, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally by phone, text, email, and company systems.
  • Willingness to coach and develop less-experienced team members.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned jobs.
  • Reliable attendance and a strong commitment to safety and quality.
  • Must own the required hand tools identified on the company tool list.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Lead residential HVAC installation and replacement projects from start to finish.
  • Safely remove and properly handle existing HVAC equipment while protecting customers’ homes and property.
  • Install furnaces, air handlers, evaporator coils, condensers, heat pumps, thermostats, drain systems, refrigerant lines, electrical components, and related accessories.
  • Install or modify ductwork, plenums, transitions, supply and return connections, equipment pads, and other system components.
  • Perform clean, professional sheetrock cut-ins when required.
  • Complete refrigerant recovery, brazing, nitrogen purging, pressure testing, evacuation, charging, wiring, startup, and commissioning.
  • Verify airflow, static pressure, temperature split, refrigerant charge, voltage, amperage, drainage, thermostat operation, and overall system performance.
  • Configure thermostats, variable-speed equipment, communicating systems, zoning components, and controls as applicable.
  • Troubleshoot and correct installation-related issues.
  • Direct, coach, and develop an assigned Install Helper or Apprentice.
  • Review the installation process and completed system with the customer.
  • Explain basic system and thermostat operation, filter requirements, maintenance needs, and warranty information.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
  • Complete required installation documents, startup sheets, photographs, model and serial number records, and customer acknowledgments.
  • Collect payment at job completion according to company procedures.
  • Maintain an organized company vehicle, required tools, and assigned inventory.
  • Follow all company, OSHA, environmental, manufacturer, and jobsite safety requirements.
  • Participate in required technical, safety, and manufacturer training.

Qualifications

Required Certifications and Registrations

  • Current EPA Section 608 certification required; Universal certification preferred.
  • Current TDLR Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician registration required.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company and insurance requirements.
  • Ability to maintain all required certifications, registrations, and continuing education.

Physical and Work Requirements

This is an active field position that requires the ability to:

  • Work in attics, crawlspaces, garages, mechanical areas, and indoor and outdoor jobsites.
  • Work in hot, cold, humid, dusty, and poorly ventilated environments.
  • Climb ladders and safely enter and exit vans, box trucks, and restricted workspaces.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
  • Independently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Move heavier equipment using appropriate lifting equipment or team-lifting procedures.
  • Work around refrigerants, electrical components, power tools, moving equipment, fumes, and other typical HVAC jobsite conditions.
